Is your council meeting people's housing needs?
Every person with MND should be able to live in a safe and accessible home, without encountering long delays and high costs. Currently, many councils are failing to provide the support needed, trapping people with MND in inaccessible homes.
This tool shows the significant variation in support councils in England provide for home adaptations. The Act to Adapt campaign aims to change this so that everyone with MND can live safely, independently and with dignity in the time they have left to live. Read more about the data.
We gathered the data below by sending councils in England Freedom of Information requests in May 2021 to find out about the support they provide for home adaptations through the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). Read more about what councils told us.
Although many councils need to make improvements, some were demonstrating good practice before we launched the campaign. In this tool, 'good practice' refers to councils that have a fast-track process for terminally ill people and offer some funding without a financial assessment. These have been marked blue.
Since we launched the campaign, we have helped some councils make positive changes. These councils have been marked green.
